Andreas & Tanja Walther
Founders & DirectorsAs former GDR children, Andreas and Tanja Walther grew up without any connection to faith or God. However, in their search for the true meaning of life, they encountered Jesus Christ during their university studies. Deeply touched by God’s love, their world was fundamentally transformed, spark-igniting a lifelong passion to invite others into this same incredible adventure of faith.
Alongside their professional careers as a medical doctor and school teacher, they dedicated years to running a Christian youth club in Chemnitz, Germany. Their hearts beat deeply for vulnerable teenagers and youngsters in need. Through their unconditional care and love, they have seen lives transformed by the hope and faith in God.
In Tanja and Andreas lives a core triad: Mission, Discipleship, and Mercy. They strive to bring God’s love to people in very practical, straightforward ways.
In 2015, they traveled to Tanzania for the first time to volunteer at a rural medical center. This short assignment completely transformed their lives and marked the birth of WeltBeweger.
On their first day, a young Tanzanian boy named Sharifu Abdala Tifu came to the clinic. A strong bond formed immediately. Within three days, he began calling them "Mama and Papa", and the ice was broken. Sharifu returned daily just for fellowship, love, and belonging, even after his dental ailments were healed.
Just before their departure, Sharifu asked why they cared for him so deeply. They explained that Jesus loved him even more, and they were simply sharing His love. Raised in a strict Muslim family, this shocked him. On their final day, he declared: "I want to have this Jesus you know. What must I do?" After praying together, they were overcome with profound joy and peace.
Sharifu was warmly welcomed by a local church, baptized, and took the name Christopher. Disowned by his relatives, Andreas and Tanja became his adoptive father and mother.
Weeks later, Christopher began housing the first street children in his tiny rented room in Mugumu, saying: "There is no home here yet for these darlings of God." This struck a deep chord in Germany. Andreas and Tanja realized this was a calling to Africa, leading to the official foundation of WeltBeweger in Chemnitz in 2016.
"Our vision is that the love of God transforms individuals, cities, and nations, and thereby spreads the Kingdom of God in society."
WeltBeweger works on the basis of the Apostles' Creed of the Evangelical Alliance.
These five pillars guide our decision-making, our projects, and how we serve people.
We live and serve out of the unconditional love of God.
We submit ourselves to the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We maintain a holistic understanding and vision for the Kingdom of God.
We actively promote and live out the unity of all Christians.
We serve the poor, sick, and socially disadvantaged in our world.
